Note: Instances will arise when not all of the above can be made available at the time the order is assigned to an Inspector. The Inspector must then obtain the information from the Vendor and particular care must be taken that drawings/specifications are the latest editions and have been approved by the Client.

3. Key inspection areas
i) Pump Case Hydrostatic Testing and Repair
The Inspector should determine how the non-witnessed hydrostatic tests are conducted and when a leak is found, how it is repaired. API 610, some of the ASTM specifications and other specifications limit the type of repairs permitted. Welded repairs to Cast Iron are forbidden.
ii) Internal Cleanliness
Inspectors should assure themselves that the Vendor takes care that all pump casings; bearing housings etc. are completely clean prior to assembly. Surfaces of castings must be completely free from moulding sand, machinery scarf or any other dirt.
iii) Dynamic Balancing
Balancing of the rotating components is always important and becomes increasingly so as diameter, weight and running speed increase. The pump specification should be consulted to check whether static or dynamic balancing is required. The inspector should by observation, confirm that the Vendor's standard practice conforms to the specification requirements.
Does the Vendor have a satisfactory system for checking that correct running clearances are achieved on assembly?
